scum of the earth

scum of the earth @androidwarezcom ripping off independent developers like me who use the 70 cents I get from a sale to support my family… thanks @alsutton for getting the word out

Yeah I visited the site to see if anything of mine was on it, but I didn’t get the chance to find out, upon entering the site you have to turn off your ad blocker, then once you get in the site you have to take a “free survey” in order to view the warez… seriously, not only are they ripping off Android developers but they are profiting off of it, truly the scum of the earth

Its actually googles fault for making it so easy to rip the apks

  • Its only a small amount of money and so people should pay the devs to use their apps as after all they worked hard on it.

  • @hydtech It’s hardly Google’s fault. A lot of companies in a lot of different industries have proven over and over that there really is no practical way to protect software. Stronger protection would probably just generate more interest from people cracking software.

What I find strange is that anyone would actually use a pirated mobile app they could buy for next to nothing. And that’s just considering the price. The worse part for the user is probably the risk with actually running the pirated app on an “always connected” device they have less control over than a normal computer. It would probably be quite easy to manipulate an app to for example send your contact list to a server or send a SMS to some pay service somewhere. All that risk just to save a dollar or euro in most cases.

That said… Google could you please enable paid apps in Sweden… I still can’t buy anything without rooting my phone! ;)

Par, how are you buying software with a rooted phone from Sweden? When I’m in India, I have to make a list of software that I want to buy and buy them when I’m back in the US. I have a rooted phone with a custom ROM. But I can’t see any paid apps in the store.

Sean, not sure what apps you make and whether I’d be interested, but are your apps in other markets so people can buy from there? I wish there was a paypal based market. I haven’t yet spent much time on it, but AppBrain (http://www.appbrain.com/) seems good.

  • @Milind I’ve not rooted my phone so I’ve not used MarketEnabler yet, but a lot of people on the swedroid.se forums have suggested it so I trust it works.

If you think that’s bad, take a look at android playground dot net. These assholes are selling subscriptions to download unlimited pirated android apps from their site. They have hundreds of titles, including my own — and NO I did not give them permission to sell my title. They’ve stolen it and are now making money at my expense.

WOW, just visiting that site got my blood boiling. I don’t know or care if they have any of my content… I just want them gone.

Thanks for all of the support everyone, piracy will always be a problem but it is really starting to bother me lately…

and I agree with Pär, this is not Google’s fault, just because something is easy to steal doesn’t make it right. Also just because the market is not supported in your area doesn’t make it acceptable to steal either… more thoughts in a future blog post
